Our all-natural juices and drinks are available in our PlantBottle®, which is made in part from plant materials.
It's just another way we are upholding our commitment to nature.
Q: What is PlantBottle® Packaging? A: PlantBottle packaging is our breakthrough packaging innovation. It's the first-ever fully recyclable PET plastic bottle made partially from plants.
Q: What is the difference between PlantBottle packaging and a traditional PET plastic bottle? A: PlantBottle packaging is PET – it's just made partially from plants vs. traditional PET that is made entirely from fossil-fuel based materials. PlantBottle packaging is made by converting the natural sugars found in plants into a key ingredient for making PET plastic. PET plastic is made up of MEG (monoethylene glycol), and PTA (purified terephthalic acid). It is used to make most single-serve plastic bottles, including those for water, soft drinks and juices. PET is globally recognized as a safe, recyclable packaging material.
Q: What do you mean by "partially made from plants"? A: PET plastic is made up of two components: MEG (monoethylene glycol), which makes up 30 percent of the PET by weight, and PTA (purified terephthalic acid), which makes up the other 70 percent. The MEG in PlantBottle packaging is made from plants, which is why we say our PET plastic bottle is partially (up to 30 percent) made from plants.
Q: What is the other 70 percent of Simply Beverages packaging made from? A: Currently the other 70 percent of the PET (the PTA) is made from traditional sources; however we continue to work towards technology to also develop PTA from plants.
Q: Why isn't the PlantBottle logo located on the back of the 11.5 fl oz Simply Beverages? A: All 11.5 fl oz Simply Beverages are produced in PlantBottle packaging, however due to label constraints the PlantBottle logo is not included on the label.
Q: Does the new PlantBottle packaging impact the taste of the Simply Beverages? A: No, PlantBottle packaging does not impact the taste of Simply Beverages. Your Simply Beverages are still just as refreshing and delicious in the new bottle.
Q: Is PlantBottle packaging fully recyclable? A: Yes. PlantBottle packaging is 100% recyclable just like traditional PET because it is PET plastic. So, when PlantBottle packaging is recycled it can be used back into new PET bottles as well as other consumer goods like t-shirts and carpet.
Q: Are PlantBottle materials more expensive than traditional PET? Will the end products be more expensive? A: We're absorbing the additional costs today as an investment in a more sustainable future. The additional cost will not be passed on to consumers.
